Holy Mackerel!

Did it ever rain here today. We got over 3 ½” today and it rained all day. I hope the crops aren’t damaged too badly, but the rain sure came down in torrents, it’ll be hard to say if it ends up damaging crops. Roger the duck would be a happy duck today!

Great Quote

If we exercise ourselves intensively in the hope of heavenly goods, weshall forget earthly ones: if we hope in God alone, we shall no longer beoccupied with the remembrance of creatures. -Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, Divine Intimacy

To my surprize

I had a great day today. I had a long day at work, I had very good and old friend take me out and teach me some things about the industry that are kind of trade secrets, and the day just has gotten better ever since. My worries melted away and I feel quite spectacular. The week ahead looks busy and that’s why I love this business.

St. Jude

I had a splendid weekend with my family! We went to my Baba’s house on Saturday and had deep fried turkey (scrumptious!) and had a lot of fun with the whole family. I lost my Baba about 3 months ago and I miss her terribly. She was a wonderful woman who always brought a smile to my face.

The following prayer is on a prayer card of my Baba’s. It is the prayer of St. Jude:

ST JUDE, glorious Apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused you to be forgotten my many, but the true Church invokes you universally as the Patron of things despaired of; pray for me, who am so miserable; pray for me that finally I may receive the consolations and the succour of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, and that I may bless God with the Elect throughout Eternity. Amen.

I heard it from my father

I heard it from my dad

- When I was your age…
- I hope you learned your lesson…
- As long as you live in “my house” - you will live by my rules
- Jobs aren’t supposed to be fun
- Go ask your mother
- This is your LAST warning
- No – because I said so
- A little work never hurt anyone
- Money doesn’t grow on trees
- Get going – you’re going to be late for scool
- God gave you two legs
- Why don’t you go out and play? And take the garbage when you go.
- I love you, now to go sleep
- I told you to go BEFORE we left the house
- Don’t drink all the milk!
- No – we are not there yet!
- Are you going to sleep all day?
- You have no vote!
- You call that noise music?

My uncle found a collection of sayings at a crafts store and bought this for me. It made me laugh, especially since my dad has said everything on this list to me!

Hard at work

I have lost 10 lbs in the last couple weeks. I’ve been watching what I eat and I have also been jogging a lot lately as well. Actually, I have been running, not jogging this last week. I find myself full of adrenaline at the end of the day, so I go running. I can run for about half an hour before I start to let up. I have been averaging about 3 1/2 miles a night, but I'm going to kick it up a notch pretty quick. It’s been really good and I feel fantastic.

I have a goal weight to reach and I am hoping to meet it by Christmas. It’s about 20 weeks, and if I lose 2 lbs per week, I’ll be about 220 lbs. My goal is to be 240, but my target is 220lbs.

I guess we’ll see how things work out.

New Prayer

Lord, if you cannot make me skinny,

please make my friends fat.

It’s been cold here in Saskatchewan this last week. The farmers are starting to harvest and the children are getting geared up for school. It’s a beautiful time of year, I would say that I prefer it to the blazing hot summer. It’s about 10 – 20 degrees with a nice cool wind. Soon the high school football teams will start practicing and hunting season will open.

I think I love the autumn because it reminds me of hunting with my Dad and my Uncle Jay. Nothing beats the feeling of walking along a bush with the stubble crunching underneath my feet trying to push out some partridge, with a golden retriever at my side. It is a great time to reflect on life, to think of the greatness of God and to see his wonderful world that he made just for us. It puts a smile on my face. When I still go, I know that my Grandpa and my Uncle are walking beside me, it’s a good feeling.

I hope everyone enjoys the remaining of their summer and that they enjoy the autumn just as much as I do!

1st Harvest Moon!!!

Before I go out for the night, I want to write about the beautiful harvest moon I saw tonight. It is a full moon and seeing it against the horizon, it is massive! It was reflecting red and orange, and it just shows that the farmers are starting harvest already! It’s a good time for rural Saskatchewan, with all of the moisture we had this year, this harvest should be phenomenal.

Saskatchewan is known for our prairie sunrises and sunsets and for our harvest moons. I never did appreciate it until I moved away. Now whenever I see one, it warms my heart, it’s like God is painting the horizon just for me. J

Indispensable advice

Sometime when you’re feeling IMPORTANT
Sometime when your ego’s in bloom.
Sometime when you take it for granted
You’re the best qualified one in the room.
Sometime when you feel that you’re going
Would leave an unfillable hole.
Just follow this simple instruction
And see how it humbles your sole.

Take a bucket and fill it with water
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that’s remaining
Is a measure of how you’ll be missed.

The moral of this quaint example
(as quoted by poets anon.)
Be proud of yourself but remember
There is NO INDISPENSABLE ONE.

Foundation of Excellence

Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes. Therefore, give yourself fully to your endeavours. Decide to construct your character through excellent actions and determine to pay the price of a worthy goal. The trails you encounter will introduce you to your strengths. Remain steadfast… and one day you will build something that endures; something worthy of your potential.

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money,, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness of skill. It will make or break a company… a church … a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only ting we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so is it with you… We are in change of our attitudes.

"Me Mudder"

When each night me prayers were said,
who tucked me in me widdle bed?
Who spanked my seat 'til it was red?

. . . Me Mudder

Who took me from my cozy cot
And set me on the ice cold pot -
And made me pee - when I could not?

. . . Me Mudder

And when the morning light had come
And in my bed I dribbled some
Who wiped my tiny widdle bum?

. . . Me Mudder

Who did me hair so neatly part
And press me gently to her heart
And sometimes squeeze me 'til I fart?

. . . Me Mudder!

Why I swear!

My Baba passed away recently and we were going through her things and one of the things I found were a collection of books from Hazelden, a dry-out centre from the states that my Grandfather went to when I was a child. There was this insert in one of the books, and maybe it will help remind me why cursing is so unnecessary. (The sarcasm is fairly thick)

Why I swear:

1) It pleases my mother.

2) It is a fine mark of manliness.

3) It proves I have self-control.

4) It indicates how clearly my mind operates.

5) It makes my conversation so pleasing to everybody.

6) It leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind as to my good breeding.

7) It impresses people that I have more than ordinary education.

8) It is an unmistakable sign of culture and refinement.

9) It makes me a very desirable personality among women, children, and respectable society.

10) It is my way of honouring God.
